During our visit with State Representative John Lewis, we shared with us how significant music was for him during the times he and other activists were being arrested, beaten, and jailed during the civil rights movement! He said at times, all they could do was hum a melody to get them through the struggle! Let us not forget just how important music is to all of us!

Each advocate shared our personal stories about not only our careers but our peers careers as well, but why each issue is important to us now more than ever since digital streaming is affecting how consumers digest our music.

Today’s copyright laws are out of date and unfair to music creators. Big radio corporations make billions of dollars from music but pay nothing to artists and producers. Other provisions of copyright law force songwriters and performers to accept below market pay for their music.

To be able to sit before State Rep. John Lewis and get his support for updating outdated laws affecting music creators was an honor! 🙌🏾
