Tami LaTrell is multi-platinum, GRAMMY-nominated songwriter who’s written for artists such as Whitney Houston (Whatchulookinat), Monica (Anchor), Keyshia Cole (Fallin Out), SWV (All About You, Let’s Make Music), to name a few. She inked her first music publishing deal with EMI Music Publishing in 2002 under the leadership of music publishing Chairman and CEO Jon Platt. Tami is now an established veteran writer under Sony Music Publishing.

 

After nearly 20 years in the business as a creative, Tami retired from songwriting in 2018 to fulfill a bigger purpose – serving the music community. She launched The Mezzo Agency, a full service music administration company that provides services for songwriters, artists and producers in areas such as catalog management, metadata enrichment, label services, royalty collection, and music clearance/licensing.

 

Since 2018 her company has recovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in unclaimed royalties for music creators on her roster which include Billboard chart topping rapper and writer K Camp (Blessing, What’s On Your Mind), platinum producer El Jefe (Queen Naija), producer Audio Jones (City Girls, Nicki Minaj), Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner El Puma (Atrevete, Cicatrizes), the Estate of the late Rev. Paul Jones (I Won’t Complain), writer/producer David Frazier (Hezekiah Walker, Ricky Dillard), writer/producer Spotless (Soco by Wizkid) and several others who entrusts in Mezzo to find, match and collect royalties that are owed to them.

 

Tami also facilitates music publishing and copyright workshops at The Mezzo Agency – Atlanta headquarters as a music advocate, and helped rally alongside others with The Recording Academy and the late Congressman John Lewis to pass the Music Modernization Act. Tami has also spoken at universities such as Thurgood Marshall School of Law, Berklee College of Music, SAE Atlanta and has been a music business expert panelist for several podcasts, music conferences, and creative retreats.

 

She has been featured in Ebony Magazine‘s Black Women To Know In PR, Tech & Digital Media, she was featured in Bloomberg Law, and Chicago Tribune as “Top 20 African American Entrepreneurs To Watch” and LL Cool J’s new platform Rock The Bells for her knowledge on music licensing and clearing samples. She’s also a Youtube partner with over 800k views.

 

Tami is a HBCU Magna Cum Laude graduate from Texas Southern University. She also attended Harvard Law receiving her certification in Copyright Law and she is a graduate of Goldman Sach’s 10KSB Entrepreneurship program.

She holds a position as Vice President of The Recording Academy-Atlanta chapter and is a member of the Association for Independent Music Publishers – Nashville Chapter. She also is a founding member of Women In Music-Atlanta.
